Over 33,500 Pilgrims Benefit from Mukhya Mantri Tirth Yatra Yojna in Punjab
The Mukhya Mantri Tirth Yatra Yojna is seen as a significant step by the Mann Government toward promoting harmony and enabling Punjab’s elderly population to experience spiritual journeys without financial burden.
The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has successfully launched the Mukhya Mantri Tirth Yatra Yojna, designed to offer free trips to religious sites for the state’s senior citizens. This initiative was introduced on November 27, 2023, coinciding with the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and reflects the government’s commitment to promoting the teachings of Guru Sahib on peace and brotherhood.
Through this scheme, the Punjab Government covers all expenses related to travel, food, and accommodation, ensuring that pilgrims enjoy a smooth and comfortable experience. Each participant receives a kit containing essential items such as bed sheets, blankets, towels, oil, and combs. Since its inception, over 33,500 pilgrims have benefited from free visits to their chosen religious destinations, facilitated by the government through buses and trains.
Pilgrims have had the opportunity to visit various sacred sites, including Sri Hazur Sahib, Sri Patna Sahib, Varanasi, Mathura, and Ajmer Sharif via train. Local trips to destinations such as Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Damdama Sahib, and Mata Vaishno Devi are made accessible through buses, accommodating up to 43 passengers. The government ensures effective coordination by confirming selected beneficiaries through SMS for their spiritual journeys.
To enhance the safety and well-being of the pilgrims, a dedicated team of doctors, volunteers, and government officials accompanies them during their travels.
Eligibility for this scheme is set for residents over 60 years old, with those over 75 permitted to bring a younger caretaker. Applicants must submit proof of residence, voter ID, Aadhaar card, proof of age, medical certificate, mobile number, and email ID online.
