Chandigarh, January 9, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Punjab’s Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Investment Promotion, Industry and Commerce, Rural Development, and Panchayat, Tarunpreet Singh Sound, has launched a new project for the state. It is reported that a pilot project has been initiated in the city of Khanna to make Punjab waste-free. Tarunpreet Singh Sound stated that today, a plant for door-to-door waste collection and segregation was inaugurated in Khanna. The cost of this pilot project is ₹4 crore.
He mentioned that the project is being launched for one year, and after its success, it will be extended to other parts of Punjab. Further providing information, Sound said that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is determined to make the state waste-free. Therefore, the first pilot project in Punjab has been launched in the city of Khanna. Wet and dry waste will be collected separately from every house in every ward of Khanna city. With this initiative, no waste will be thrown anywhere in the city, making all wards of Khanna free of waste and visually appealing.
Cabinet Minister Sound added that under this project, all residential, commercial, and street vendors in Khanna city will be assigned a user number and connected through an app. A minimal bill for waste collection will be sent to each consumer’s mobile via message. City residents will be able to pay their bills both online and offline. A dedicated complaint cell has also been set up with a toll-free number, 1800-121-5721. He assured that any complaint related to waste management will be acted upon within 60 minutes of the call. He also mentioned that all waste collection vehicles in Khanna city will be GPS-tracked, and the details of these vehicles will be displayed live on a control room screen, showing which vehicle is collecting waste from which ward.
