Chandigarh, December 10, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau)– While smart gadgets like mobile phones and laptops make work easier, they are also causing pain and health issues in children. Prolonged use of these devices in the same position increases the risk of cervical problems. This issue is evident in the physiotherapy department of Bareilly District Hospital, where children suffering from cervical pain visit every month.

What Doctors Say
Dr. Shashank Shukla, HOD of the Physiotherapy Department at Khushlok Hospital, explained that cervical pain is not a disease but a serious problem. Sitting in the same posture for hours or watching mobile phones or TV with a bent neck can lead to cervical pain. The main reason for this pain in children is their habit of watching mobile phones and TV for long periods. This prolonged sitting in one position puts pressure on the spine, increasing the risk of ligament strain. In such cases, muscles stiffen, and disk problems may arise.

Causes
Dr. Rohit, in charge of the Physiotherapy Department at the District Hospital, mentioned that cervical pain can occur in any season. Earlier, it was more common in elderly patients, but now children aged 10 to 14 years are also affected. During counseling sessions, it was revealed that children spent hours watching mobile phones or TV in one position. Children should be encouraged to engage in sports, dancing, and other recreational activities to stay healthy.

Increase Activities
The first step to addressing this issue is to reduce children’s screen time on mobile phones and TV. Encourage them to participate in physical activities and outdoor sports. This will help improve their overall development and protect them from illnesses.

Summary: Excessive use of mobile phones and watching TV is causing cervical problems in children, impacting their health and posture.
