April 13 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Leading the Baisakhi celebrations at the international border here this evening, the Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal also urged all voters to play their part in strengthening democracy and exercise their right to vote in a free, fair and responsible manner in the forthcoming polls.
Extending Baisakhi wishes, the Deputy Commissioner said the festival encompasses the thriving spirit of Punjab which has been the bread basket of our nation. Baisakhi is an abiding example of the immense hard work of our farmers and their spirit of entrepreneurship, the DC said after presiding over the cultural programme organised by district administration here on occasion of Baisakhi.
Bhangra and Giddha were main attractions of the Cultural programme before the Retreat Ceremony at the Sadki Choki and people from all walks of life attended the event.
Later, the DC along with the SSP Fazilka Dr. Pragya Jain joined gathering of thousands of enthusiastic Citizens and attended the Flag Retreat Ceremony.
Urging the first time voters, the DC asked them to come out vote and also inspire and encourage others to use their constitutional right. Elections are a festival of democracy and this time the Election Commission has decided to achieve Ab ki baar 70 paar campaign to increase overall votes polling percentage.
As part of administration efforts, the DC also administered the oath to people present on the occasion to vote on June 1 to ensure maximum people cast their vote and strengthen democracy.
On the occasion, SSP Fazilka Dr. Pragya Jain said all efforts and steps have been ensured to gurad against any mischievous element trying to vitiate sanctity of our polling process. No laxity in this regard would be tolerated by the adminstration, SSP further said asking all to vote and also bring our others to cast their vote on June 1.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC General Ramesh Popli, Commandant Officer Vishesh Kumar, SDM Pankaj Bansal, and Tensiladar Sukhdev Singh.
