The US Presidential Election 2024 is a close contest between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump and their fate will depend on seven important states. These states are: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which have 93 electoral votes. Victory in these states can make the path to becoming president easier for any candidate. These are the states that change their preferences between Democrats and Republicans during the election. The results in these states are always almost equal, due to which they become the center of election destinations. Recently, both the major candidates organized big rallies in Pennsylvania, which is the largest among these states and has 19 electoral votes.

 Focus on special states
Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin are very important for Kamala Harris’ victory. These were known as the “Blue Wall”, which were considered strongholds of the Democrats. In 2016, Trump won these states in his favor, but in 2020 Joe Biden returned these states back in favor of the Democrats.

  1. Pennsylvania (19 electoral votes) : Pennsylvania has often favored Democratic candidates, but Trump won here by just 0.7% in 2016. In 2020, Biden won here by 1.2%.

  2.  Michigan (15 electoral votes) : Michigan has consistently voted for the winner. Trump’s 2016 win was a major upset. In 2020, Biden won here by a margin of about 154,000 votes.

  3.  Wisconsin (10 electoral votes ): This state has also supported the winning candidate in previous elections. Winning here will be very important for Harris.

  4.  Arizona (11 electoral votes):   After Biden’s success, Arizona now remains a priority for both candidates.

  5.  Georgia (16 electoral votes): Biden won Georgia in 2020, a key victory for Democrats. If Harris wins it again, it will increase her total electoral votes.

  6.  North Carolina (16 electoral votes): This state has traditionally leaned Republican, but is still competitive.

  7.  Nevada (6 electoral votes): This state usually leans Democratic, but now has potential for Republicans.

The road to victory

Experts believe Harris will need about 45 additional votes to reach 270 electoral votes. She will need to win Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Trump will need to regain the states he won in 2016, especially Pennsylvania and Michigan. In final preparations, Harris has emphasized unity and community support, while Trump has criticized the current administration and promised economic reform. The electoral outcome will depend on the voting in these states, which will make the upcoming election extremely exciting.

Democratic Party faces huge drop in voter turnout
Voting figures in the election indicate that the ruling Democratic Party is facing a huge drop in voter turnout, former President Donald Trump’s campaign team claimed on Monday. As of Monday, more than 8 crore registered voters have exercised their franchise and in some key states, more than 50 percent of voters have already cast their votes.

The trends of the last two elections show that early voting has been beneficial for the Democratic Party. Trump’s election campaign team argued in a confidential memo that this may not be the case this time. Tim Sailor, the chief data consultant of Trump’s election campaign team, said, “With the early voting ending and the election day approaching, the Democratic Party is facing a huge decrease in voting. In every important state, we are seeing former President Trump and the Republican Party performing better than in previous elections.” According to the Democratic Party’s own ‘data analysts’, “An in-depth analysis of the data shows that the Democratic Party is facing a huge decline in urban voting and an increase in rural voting.”
