Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh, who earned a lot of fame from the film ‘Dangal’, has recently revealed one of her diseases. Fatima has now spoken openly about her epilepsy. She told that she never believed that she had a mental illness.
In an interview with the media, Fatima Sana Shaikh said, “I was diagnosed with epilepsy while shooting for Dangal. At first, I was in denial and was not ready to accept that I had a neurological disorder, so I did not take any medicine. I was afraid that I might have an epileptic attack in front of people. There is a lot of stigma associated with epilepsy. People think that you are either on drugs, wanting attention or are possessed by ghosts and should be avoided.”
Fatima said that she was not taking her medicines on time. That is why she used to have more seizures. The actress said- I did not want to take medicines, I was not only fighting with people but also with medicines. I felt that I did not need them to live a normal life.
Fatima said, “I used to have seizures once or twice a week and the pre-event anxiety was very severe. I was so scared that I stopped going to events and screenings. Eventually, I told the paparazzi about my condition and they were incredibly considerate. They made sure not to use flashlights when I was around. Sometimes, my colleagues didn’t understand, but the paparazzi did.”
