18 October, 2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia next week to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, set for October 22-23 in Kazan. The summit, chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, will bring together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to discuss key global issues and strengthen cooperation among the BRICS nations.

This year’s summit theme, “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” will focus on enhancing international collaboration and tackling challenges in global governance.

According to the external affairs ministry, the summit will provide an important opportunity to review the progress of BRICS initiatives and explore areas for future partnership.

This visit marks Modi’s second trip to Russia this year, following a visit to Moscow in July.

The BRICS group, named after the initials of its founding members—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has since expanded to include countries like Iran.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. He was welcomed at Nur Khan airbase by senior Pakistani officials.
