8 october 2024 : Foxconn is set to construct the world’s largest facility in Mexico for assembling Nvidia’s GB200 superchips, a crucial part of Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell computing platform. The Taiwanese tech giant, also the largest contract electronics manufacturer and major iPhone assembler, is capitalizing on the AI boom by producing servers for AI processing.
Benjamin Ting, Foxconn’s Senior Vice President for Cloud Enterprise Solutions, highlighted the significance of the partnership with Nvidia, noting the overwhelming demand for the Blackwell platform. Nvidia has already started shipping samples of the Blackwell chips, expecting substantial revenue in the fourth quarter.
Foxconn’s Chairman, Young Liu, confirmed the plant’s location in Mexico, emphasizing its massive production capacity but declined to provide further details. Foxconn has already invested over $500 million in Mexico’s Chihuahua state. The new facility will also support AI technologies like advanced liquid cooling and heat dissipation, crucial for GB200 servers.
In addition to AI, Foxconn is diversifying its business beyond Apple, focusing on electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. Despite fierce competition in the EV market, Liu stressed the company’s commitment to the sector and the shift towards contract manufacturing in the automotive industry.
