25 september 2024 : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday, announcing that he has already invited India to take part in the second international peace summit aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia, as reported by PTI.
Zelensky emphasized that “unity always works for peace” and called for a collaborative effort from all nations to completely end the war. He stated, “I invite all of you, all principal nations to join us in this process, all who truly respect the UN Charter. We invite China, Brazil, and I have already invited India. We are engaging with African nations, Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, the Pacific region, and North America.”
He asserted that the second peace summit would facilitate genuine peace, referencing the UN Charter as a path to achieving it. “This process will lead us to peace, to a just peace, a real peace, a peace that will endure. We all know how to achieve it. We have the peace formula, the UN Charter, and the necessary strength. What we need is determination,” Zelensky remarked.
During a recent meeting in the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ukraine and reiterated India’s support for a swift resolution to the conflict and the restoration of peace and stability.
Regarding the first Ukraine peace summit, an Indian delegation from the Ministry of External Affairs attended the ‘Summit on Peace in Ukraine’ held in Switzerland on June 15-16. Although India did not sign the final communique or the outcome document from the summit, the MEA affirmed that India would continue to engage with all parties involved to facilitate an early end to the conflict.
