12 september 2024: Former hockey goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh recently shared a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. In the letter, the Prime Minister praised Sreejesh for his contributions to Indian hockey and expressed confidence that he would be effective as the new junior coach. Sreejesh, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and another bronze at the Paris Olympics before retiring from hockey, has been appointed as the new head coach of the junior team by Hockey India. Modi’s letter, written on August 16, stated, “I am confident that your work in your new role as a coach will be impactful and inspiring.” Sreejesh shared the letter on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I received a letter from the Prime Minister upon my retirement. Hockey is my life, and I will continue to serve the sport. I will keep working to make India a hockey superpower.”
