06 august 2024 : Gujarat University, located in Ahmedabad and recognized as one of the oldest and largest public universities in the state, has issued a notice to its students from Bangladesh. The advisory urges them to refrain from leaving the city without prior notification to the authorities and to remain cautious regarding reactions to rumors and social media content.
In response to the unrest occurring in the neighboring country, a meeting was convened with approximately 25 Bangladeshi students who are enrolled in various programs at the university and its affiliated colleges, all of whom are beneficiaries of the Government of India’s Indian Council for Cultural Relations scholarship. The meeting was led by Dr. Neerja Gupta, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University, alongside Nilam Panchal, the director of the Study Abroad Programme (SAP), which oversees the enrollment of international students
Following a thorough evaluation of the circumstances, we convened a meeting with the students to provide them with guidance. We have assured them of our support and emphasized that there is no reason for them to experience anxiety
Bangladeshi students have been instructed to refrain from departing Ahmedabad without prior notification or obtaining permission from the relevant university authorities. They are required to submit an emergency contact number to the university, which has subsequently provided two 24/7 emergency helpline numbers for students to reach out to the authorities at any time.
Additionally, the advisory urged students to remain composed and to avoid responding to rumors or social media postings.
