Giving further impetus to Project Sahyog, Swapan Sharma IPS, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar today organized a public outreach at Thana Division No. 5 to motivate people and build relationship between people and police. Around 250 personalities from different fields attended the event. People from different welfare associations, factory owners, NGO representatives, retired government officials, civil society members participated. The main topic of today’s programme was CCTV coverage in the city and to motivate people to install more cameras around them.
Discussion and motivation was done through live examples and data sharing so that they understand the importance of this CCTV coverage. Some case studies were also discussed. Data based approach is being adopted for this purpose. Commissionerate Police has proposed to increase around 1500 cameras across the city in the next one month under this program. It is worth mentioning that around 6000 cameras have already been installed in the city at different places like market, hospital, railway station, bus stand, religious places, bank with the cooperation of people in ICCC.
Dedicated monitoring will be done at different time and place in ICCC control room. This will be done based on evidence based data driven approach. A special security protocol is being specially prepared which will serve as a guide for the control room staff and teams from the ground. The Commissionerate Police aims to reduce the crime rate by 50% and detect more than 90% of crime especially street crime.
Such programmes will continue in future also to motivate people to adopt rational approach and install CCTV cameras. Police Commissionerate, Jalandhar has appealed to the public institutions and industrialists to increase the number of CCTV cameras and install them to reduce crime rate and help in detection of crimes.
