The Government of India has made a new announcement for air passengers. Now while traveling in an airplane, passengers will be allowed to use the internet after the plane reaches a height of 3,000 meters (about 10,000 feet). In this regard, the Central Government has issued a new notification under the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Act, under which this rule will apply to all flights.

Facility in air travel under new rules
Earlier in 2018, the government had implemented the rule that mobile communication service can be started in the aircraft only when the aircraft reaches a minimum height of 3,000 meters (about 10,000 feet). Now the government has made changes in the new rules and made it clear that after reaching this height, internet service through Wi-Fi will be started only when the use of electronic devices is allowed in the aircraft. This means that even after reaching a height of 3,000 meters, internet services will be provided only when passengers are allowed to use their electronic devices.

Captain will have the right to turn Wi-Fi on or off
Under the new policy, the Captain of the aircraft will have the right to turn Wi-Fi on or off during the flight. Wi-Fi will be turned on when the aircraft is at a stable speed, that is, the aircraft is flying properly in the air. At the same time, Wi-Fi will be off during take-off or landing. This step has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the aircraft, so that any kind of technical problem can be avoided during take-off and landing.

Use of electronic devices during flight
Under the new policy, now passengers will be able to use their smartphones, laptops, tablets and other electronic devices during the flight in the airplane, but this will be possible only when the plane reaches an altitude of 3,000 meters. Earlier, the use of these devices was prohibited in the aircraft, especially at the time of take-off and landing. Now passengers will not have any problem in using the Internet during their journey, provided the aircraft has achieved a safe altitude.

Benefit of Wi-Fi service
With the implementation of this new rule, passengers will get the benefit of internet facility during long flights. This will be a big relief especially for those going on business trips, who want to continue their work during the flight. Apart from this, it will also be beneficial for those passengers who want to remain active on social media during the flight or like to watch movies and shows. This facility will attract passengers more especially in long international flights, where they can use the internet throughout. However, this facility will depend on the airlines as to how soon they start Wi-Fi services in their planes.

Will this rule be applicable on all flights?
This rule will now apply to all flights operating in Indian airspace, whether it is a domestic flight or international. However, it is important to keep in mind that some airlines have already started in-flight Wi-Fi services in their planes, while others will have to start this facility now. It is expected that in the coming time, Wi-Fi facility will be made available to passengers by all major airlines. This new step of the Government of India has started a new facility for air travelers. Now passengers will be able to use the Internet while traveling in the plane, which will make their journey even more comfortable and convenient. However, this facility will be available only when the plane reaches an altitude of 3,000 meters and the plane is at a stable speed. This step was necessary to increase the convenience of the passengers as well as to ensure the safety of the aircraft.
