15 october 2024 : Malayalam actor Jayasurya, who is facing sexual assault allegations, was reportedly interrogated by the Kerala police on Tuesday, where he firmly denied all accusations. As reported by Mathrubhumi, he referred to himself as a “living martyr.”
Interrogation Details
According to Manorama, the Kerala police questioned Jayasurya regarding a rape case filed by a female colleague. He was summoned to the Cantonment police station in Thiruvananthapuram at 10 a.m. During the questioning, he stated, “I completely deny the allegations. This is a fabricated case. I don’t even need anticipatory bail.” He expressed concern over false accusations, emphasizing that such claims could destabilize many families. He also noted, “I have a platform to make my case; many others don’t.”
In his remarks, he mentioned, “I am facing two false accusations. A woman has been speaking in various places, implying it’s me, but she has denied it on several occasions… I will fight this legally until the accusations against me are proven false. I believe I am a living martyr.”
Background on Allegations
The Kerala police registered a second sexual assault case against Jayasurya after a woman actor accused him of molestation on a movie set near Thodupuzha between 2012 and 2013. In response to the complaint, the Kerala government appointed a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the claims.
A new FIR was filed against him under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty. Additionally, Section 354 C, relating to voyeurism, has also been invoked. These allegations have surfaced in the wake of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted numerous sexual assault incidents within the Malayalam film industry. Following this report, several female actors have begun to share their experiences, shedding light on the pervasive issue of sexual abuse in Mollywood.
