11 october 2024 : Amid over 375 petitions filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming panchayat elections, the State Election Commission (SEC) has instructed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to closely monitor the actions of the returning officers (ROs). This is to ensure strict adherence to election rules and procedures.
These instructions were issued after the High Court stayed the election process in villages related to 275 petitions, aiming to emphasize the fairness and transparency of the election process. Furthermore, the SEC decided to delay the poll in Behbal Kalan until after October 15,
