8 October 2024 : In a groundbreaking move, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has embarked on an ambitious project to transform the health sector by training 5,000 faculty members from 250 nursing colleges. This initiative aims to elevate nursing education to international standards, ensuring top-notch healthcare services for the people of Punjab
The First of the series of such training workshops was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh at the Auditorium of Chandigarh University, (Gharuan) Mohali, in which over 500 faculty members from the nursing institutes of the districts of Mohali, Ropar, and Fatehgarh Sahib participated.
In his inaugural address, the Health Minister emphasised on the strengthening of Clinical Training of the Nursing Students in government hospitals. He added that the nursing colleges, students and Health Dept. of Punjab should collaborate to provide quality patient care in government hospitals. Students should also be provided the training on preventive care like lifestyle modifications, health education in the community.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Punjab government is committed to strengthening the health and education sectors, recognizing their potential for job creation among youth. This initiative is a significant step towards achieving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision of a healthy and prosperous , ‘Rangla Punjab’.
The Health Minister also launched the NRTS and Primary Registration System in Punjab that will help the nursing professionals to align with Central Registration.
Dr Balbir Singh informed that this training covers a variety of key areas, including Clinical Training in Government Hospitals, NRTS, TNAI, Online Evaluation of Answer Sheets, College Inspections, and roles such as Centre Superintendents, Invigilators, and for Practical Examinations.
The Health Minister also assured Punjab government’s support in setting up of the Simulation lab.”Punjab will be the first state in the region to establish a simulation lab in collaboration with TNAI,” he added.
Meanwhile Dr. Avnish Kumar, Director, Research & Medical Education welcomed the Chief Guest and other delegates, giving an overview of the series of workshops.
Dr. Puneet Girdhar, the Registrar of PNRC, Dr. Evelyn P. Kanan, Dr. Deepika C. Khakha, Nursing Advisor to the Government of India, DHS Dr. Hitinder Kaur, Rahul Sharma, a corporate leader & entrepreneur, delivered keynote lectures in the inaugural session of the workshop.
