8 october 2024 : BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh has strongly criticized the law and order situation in Punjab, pointing to the recent panchayat elections as evidence of a “complete breakdown” of governance under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Chugh condemned the use of intimidation and violence during the elections, calling it a direct attack on democracy. He highlighted incidents of gangsters freely operating, intimidating candidates, and disrupting the electoral process. Specifically, he mentioned a case in Faridkot’s Behbal Khurd village, where anti-social elements prevented candidates from filing nominations.
Chugh accused the AAP leadership of using thugs to suppress the opposition rather than maintaining law and order. He has urged the state Election Commission to take immediate action, demanding a thorough investigation into the violence, especially in Faridkot, and calling for accountability for those undermining democracy.
