October 3, 2024: Under the initiative of Punjab’s Technical Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today by Rajya Sabha Member Vikramjeet Singh Sahni regarding the adoption of six ITIs in the state. Sharing information about this development, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains mentioned that the Technical Education Department is continuously working to provide skill-based training to the youth of Punjab. However, due to ongoing technological advancements, the state’s ITIs have been facing challenges in providing the latest education. To address this issue, he collaborated with Vikramjeet Singh Sahni, who agreed to assist in upgrading the ITIs.

According to the MoU, Dr. Sahni will invest ₹11 crore for the upgradation of six ITIs, which include ITI Ludhiana, ITI Patiala, ITI Manakpur Sharif in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, ITI Sunam, and ITI Lalru. Minister Bains stated that these ITIs will be connected with local industries to ensure strong industry connections for placements and apprenticeships for ITI students. He also announced that the ITI Excellence Center in Ludhiana will be launched in the upcoming month of November.

Under this agreement, a course in aviation hospitality, beauty wellness, and nursing will be initiated at the Mohali ITI focused on women’s empowerment.

He indicated that these initiatives are expected to create job opportunities for around 10,000 youth. Furthermore, he revealed that Lalru and Manakpur Sharif ITIs will be developed as Drone Academies, making them leading institutions in drone technology in the country. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized that the government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is continuously working to provide skill-based education to the youth of the state, as demonstrated by increasing the seat count in ITIs from 28,000 to 35,000. He noted that this will not only provide skilled workers for industrial units but also help reduce unemployment and combat drug-related issues in the state.
