October 3, 2024: Farmers in Punjab, who have been protesting since February over several issues including the legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops, will halt train services today. The farmers have made complete preparations for the protest, which will take place from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The plan is to stop trains at 35 locations across 22 districts of the state under the banner of a non-political farmers’ movement.
Travelers using trains may face difficulties during this period, particularly on the Chandigarh, Ambala, Amritsar, and Jammu routes. Farmers will also conduct protests at the Shambhu border to further amplify their grievances. Key demands of the farmers include justice for those killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, a legal guarantee for minimum support prices, and loan waivers for farmers and laborers. The farmers assert that their demands are entirely justified.
