30 september 2024 : The Indian wushu team made a significant impact at the Junior World Wushu Championship in Brunei, securing a total of seven medals.
India achieved two gold medals, one silver, and four bronze medals, marking a historic milestone as Indian athletes defeated competitors from China and Iran in certain weight categories for the first time, according to the Wushu Association of India. The 24-member Indian squad participated in the tournament from September 22 to 30.
Aryan claimed the gold medal in the Boys’ Group Junior 48 kg weight category after a tough match against Gong Huanran from China. Shaurya also secured a gold by overcoming Iranian competitor Alireza Zamani in the Boys’ 48 kg (children) section.
Nang Mingbi Borphukan earned a silver medal in the Taolu Jian Shu C Group event. Tanish Nagar secured a bronze medal in the 56 kg weight class after losing to Abdulkhamid Odilov, while Abhijeet (60 kg), Divyanshi (60 kg women), and Yuvraj (42 kg) also contributed bronze medals to India’s tally.
