20 september 2024 : Indian weightlifter Valuri Ajay Babu won the gold medal in the men’s 81 kg junior and senior categories at the Commonwealth Championship. The 19-year-old Babu lifted a total of 326 kg (147 kg in snatch and 179 kg in clean and jerk). He also set a Commonwealth record in the clean and jerk category. Additionally, he established junior national records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight lifted.
In the men’s 89 kg category, Lalyu Atfela won a silver medal, while Harudanan Das secured a silver in the youth category and a bronze in the junior category.
