10 september 2024 : The second Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation is set to begin in Delhi on Wednesday, with the goal of developing a roadmap for advancing the civil aviation sector in the region.
Over the course of two days, more than 250 delegates from 41 countries will gather for the event. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the closing session on Thursday. Naidu highlighted India’s rapid growth in aviation, noting that the number of aircraft has doubled to over 800 and the number of airports has increased from 74 to 157 in the past decade.
Naidu also mentioned ongoing bilateral meetings with countries including Vietnam, Japan, Maldives, and Singapore, aiming to promote Indian airlines and develop aviation hubs.
Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam noted that air safety will be a key topic of discussion at the conference. The event is jointly organized by the Indian government and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) APAC. The conference was last held in Beijing in 2018 and was initially planned for 2020 in India but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
